In the Midst of Winter is a torn-paper collage with a background of a 15th century cathedral. The words are a quote written on the back, "In the Midst of Winter, I found within me an invincible summer." The tree is made of wallpaper and symbolize the fall season when we doubt the coming of spring. The leaves are gold and falling, almost gone. They are made of painted tissue paper. The figure in the corner is made up of words and is awaiting the bird to land on his hand offering hope for better times. Visitors can't seem to help themselves from reaching to touch the piece. It is coated to prevent damage.
