Harvesting Sugar Cane was back breaking work by slaves brought to the United States because they had the expertise to grow it. This piece depicts the men loading the cane into a wagon for transfer to the boiling towers up the road. It is made from pieces of torn paper which gives it physical texture but also built into the piece is visual texture to build perspective and interest. All of my pieces are coated so they can be touched. People can't seem to help themselves.
